If ever a week was exciting and eventful, last week was it.
Sunday started the week off by finally getting my 3 month review at the restaurant (4 months in). As expected it was all good and I ended up with a raise. I now make the cap allowed for a staff member at my level! It was a rainy and therefore slow week at work, so it was nice and somewhat relaxing for a change. You should be proud, I was also named staff member of the week. Apparently because I ran after customers who hadn't paid.
Monday I had an interview with a recruiter, who coincidentally is the girlfriend of the guy I stayed with when I got here. About a month or so ago I had spoken with a friend of a friend at a pub quiz and he had mentioned that they were looking for people at his job. We have been in touch and he was trying to help get me a job there. He referred me to his recruiter the week before last and ironically it was someone I knew. The position was open again so they told me to decide if I wanted to take it. It was well paid and required little work, but it was a night job.
During my visit with her she also told me about a visa I could apply for. She mentioned their office was across the street, so I stopped in afterwards and asked about the visa. It would be essentially be the same visa I have now, but since you go through their program it is okay if you have already gotten it. The only downside is I would have to apply from the US and there is a quota. Still a good option though.
Tuesday I spent contemplating the job and in the end decided to take it. Since I worked late that night, I had to wait until Wednesday morning to call. When I called she told me that before I accepted the offer, one of her coworkers was about to get a potential temporary position in admin at a yacht design company and asked if I would rather have that instead. Of course I said yes. The position wasn't official yet, but she said she would put my name forward when she met with them.
Thursday I found out they were interested and scheduled an interview for this morning. They decided they liked me and this afternoon they offered me the position. I start basically whenever I can (after I work through my two weeks notice) and will be there for a month, potentially longer. The lady I interviewed with was really nice and its a casual company (which is good because I brought a limited number of professional clothes with me). While it isn't my dream job, its a HUGE step in the right direction. I will be able to learn just by exposure to the industry and I will also be able to hopefully gain some good contacts in the industry. Its been a huge relief for things to start going in the right direction!
Amongst all this excitement Sean also mentioned that one of his flatmates is moving out in a few weeks and we decided that I would move into her room. My new flatmates are awesome and I am glad to meet some new people (since a lot of my original friends here have started moving back home), but I am really excited about this new adventure. And as a bonus, his place is closer to my new job! Things are going great with us and I am really excited to be able to spend some more time with him.
On top of all that I continue to do as much homework as possible. I am starting to feel a bit antisocial and spend most of my time not at work locked in my room doing homework. I will hopefully finish my next assignment in the next few days which will be a nice relief. I have two more small assignments that are mostly finished and then another big one, all due by June 15th. I should be okay, but I really need to make sure I am dedicated to getting it done. I can't wait for it to be done so I can relax and enjoy my last month here (hopefully for only a short while).
So in conclusion, I'm having a great week and am in a fantastic mood. I hope you can say the same.
